Blahnik never attended formal shoe making training. By visiting shoe factories and speaking with pattern cutters, technicians, and machine operators, he learnt the skills.
He reinvented the elegant stiletto heel, which has since become a classic when mainstream shoe styles were still dominated by bulky platforms in the 1970s. Along with Jimmy Choo, Stella McCartney, Gucci, and others, Manolo Blahnik is mentioned in the Bollywood film Student of the Year's opening song "Gulabi Aankhein."
