Car of the month Volvo S90 For the month of January we have chosen the Volvo S90 to be our car of the month. It is a feature rich luxury sedan that seems to offer its money’s worth with ease. Coming in at an ex showroom of 62 lakhs it isn’t the most expensive luxury sedan on sale, but it is a high quality and safe car that focuses on making it a comfortable daily driver. The new B5-spec is only available with a 253PS petrol engine, which is much more powerful than the 190PS diesel, however torque is reduced by 50 Nm to 350 Nm. With up to 14PS and 40 Nm added by the 48V mild-hybrid system, this shortfall is much less noticeable in the real world.
This vehicle focuses on a new Android-based infotainment system that was co-developed with Google. The hardware and overall interface are identical to the old Sensus system, but it now includes Google Maps and Assistant, as well as access to a variety of Play Store apps such as Spotify and Google Books. The four-zone climate control, heated, cooled, and massaging front seats are among the highlights, while the outstanding 19- speaker Bowers & Wilkins audio system now offers a larger choice of sound modes to choose from, including a previously unavailable stage setting. Finally, an improved cabin air cleaner has been installed. The front seats are as supportive and adaptable as before, while back passengers enjoy effortless ingress/egress thanks to the seats’ high H-point and comfortable recline angle. Despite the smaller sunroof, the interior has a light and airy vibe, there’s also plenty of legroom and headroom on offer. But in a car like this, you’d expect so much.
